Alex & Blake | Shelbyville, IL Neutral Boho Glam Summer Wedding Photographer

Alex and Blake’s wedding day was an amazing (and hot) one to remember! It was about 92 degrees with a heat index of 102. It was sticky, Illinois, humidity heat. What I thought would turn out to be a day of frustration from the heat, turned out to be so amazingly beautiful! When I arrived at Firefly lodge to photograph the morning with the girls everyone was completely accommodating. Alex was finishing up her hair and make-up, the dress was hung so beautifully behind her and her bridal party greeted me with huge smiles of excitement to get the fun started.

Alex got dressed in the most gorgeous, form-fitted lace gown from Justin Alexander. It was perfect for her. Alex’s mom helped complete her bridal look with a cathedral length veil that she made herself – it was so gorgeous! Alex had a touching first look with her dad – who put everyone in tears with his touching speech to Alex’s girlfriends. It was time to send her off to marry Blake!

Spruce Street Studios was the perfect venue for Alex & Blake’s wedding. It is a new venue – an old church converted to a ceremony and reception space with gorgeous, tall ceilings. Alex had a boho glam theme for their wedding and the Wren’s Gate Garden and Studio decorated the spaces gorgeously with flowers – including an arbor too perfect for words. The ceremony, performed by Blake’s uncle was so touching and sweet. Blake isn’ one to admit it, but I saw tears fill his eyes as he saw his bride for the first time! After Alex and Blake sealing the beginning of their marriage with a kiss we packed up and headed back towards the lodge for some fun bridal party photos!

Alex and Blake as well as their bridal party were such troopers for photos. It was very, very hot and sticky but not ONCE did I hear a complaint about them having the stand out or get closer for photos. I loved working with this amazing group who made me feel so welcome and have so much fun celebrating the newlyweds! Even sweet Halle (Alex and Blake’s adorable pup) got in on some of the shots! We finished up a great set of photos before heading back to Spruce Street to start the bigger celebration!

Oh my goodness did Alex have every detail of her reception figured out! The geometric centerpieces with flowers, the candles, the delicious cake, their first dance on a cloud compliments of Radio Pro DJs. The night was so perfect down to the very tiniest detail! Not only that, but Alex and Blake suited up one more time, allowing us and the amazing videography team, In All Things Creative, to take them up the road for golden hour shots. Just. Wait. Until. You. See. This. Sunset!!! It was absolutely breathtaking and so much fun to have a few quiet moments with Alex and Blake to finish out their portraits.

Alex and Blake – from the bottom of  my heart, thank you so much for allowing me to be apart of your big day, for dealing with the heat flawlessly, for throwing a fun-filled celebration and for being my friends. You two make what I do a dream come true and I appreciate you trusting me to capture your biggest day!
